Calendar Math

Together with Kay Marix, Lafayette Parish Director of Elementary Schools, LEF has found a program to assist teachers in improving "number sense" among students. Recent LEAP test scores have identified that students "number sense" skills are below average. This program is an effort to prepare second grade students for their third grade LEAP testing. "Everyday Counts Calendar Math" was actually developed by a Louisiana educator in St. Tammany Parish. The kit provides a fun way for students to become familiar with money, patterns, measurements, and time.

By equipping each classroom with the "Everyday Counts Calendar Math" kit, students will have the opportunity to participate in activities that preview, review, practice, and discuss concepts that build math understanding, while raising test scores in just a few minutes each day. Our goal is to provide each second grade classroom in Lafayette Parish with this vital tool.
